The plot of The Queen’s Gambit Series

The Queen’s Gambit is a series about the life of an orphan chess prodigy named Elizabeth Harmon. The series shows how she became an elite chess player while struggling with emotional problems like drugs and alcohol dependency. The story starts in the 1950s in Lexington, Kentucky, where an eight-year-old Beth lost her mother in a car crash. She was taken to an orphanage where she learned chess from the custodian of the building named Mr. Shaibel. At that time the orphanage distributes daily tranquilizer pills to the girls to balance their disposition but it turned out to be an addiction for Beth. She became a strong chess player because of her visualization skills. After a few years, she was adopted by a childless suburban couple named Alma and Allston Wheatley. After adjusting to her new home, she takes part in a chess tournament which she wins however she had no prior experience with competitive chess. After winning her first tournament, Alma fully supports her adopted daughter to enter various chess competitions. She makes new friends including former Kentucky state champion Harry Beltic, United States national champion Benny Watts and a journalist and fellow player DL Townes. As she comes to the top of the chess world and reaches the financial benefits of her success, her dependency on drugs and alcohol becomes worse. But with her oldest friend Jolene with whom she grew up in the orphanage, she prepares for her biggest challenge yet which is a big International chest tournament which was against the best players of the world in Moscow.
