Besides being a large part of everyone’s lives, it’s not only the entertainment on TV that has evolved. The television sets themselves have morphed into something of an enigma in today’s world. In the past century, what started as a big box with only a couple of channels with grainy picture quality, has changed into flat screen models with definition of the highest standards.

There is a multitude of content in-built into these “smart” TVs of today. OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix allow viewers to stream content on their TV screens, and these prompt how viewers take in all the media they are exposed to. With entertainment in the palm of their hands, viewers have the power, through their smart TVs, to do whatever they want with an endless source of entertainment to match every desire.

You don’t have to envision this large screen dominating your room wall. Any decently sized smart 32 inch LED TV will suffice for your entertainment requirements. Technology is not responsible for how we make use of entertainment, but it enables many ways by which we can use entertainment platforms as we like.

Smart TV manufacturers take indications from how users react to smart TVs, to improve and alter existing technology. Television sets and TVs have had a long history, with many stories along the way.

Television Evolution – Briefly Put

Since it is not possible to go into great detail of how television sets have changed, the essential events are mentioned for brevity. The precursor to the television was called a pantelegraph, the first machine that transmitted images successfully during the late 1800s. In 1924, in a momentous effort, an engineer, John Baird, invented a working television for the first time.

It was the best TV to date, and commercially hit the market in 1929. In the 1930s, the 702 Marconi was sold, but it had a short life. Later, the HMV company (His Master’s Voice) blended a television set with a radio. In the late 1930s, the technology of televisions was still only emerging. Better TVs, with screens that showed less grainy images than before, came out in the 1940s with the Golden View, a TV by Motorola.

In the beginning of the ‘60s, companies like GE were relaying shows that were based on radio serials. The TV by General Electric was the “807”, and it was popular with its wooden casing and small circular-sided screen. By this time, four TV networks (mainstays of the TV era), ABC, NBC, CBS and DuMont were broadcasting shows all week. During the ‘50s, the best TV was not a 32-inch LED TV, but a much smaller model – the M Raytheon 1601. Shows like “I Love Lucy”, were broadcast throughout the ‘60s on TVs made by RCA Victor. In the 1970s, TVs took a turn for the better, with plastic and metal casing, and started having bigger and better screens.

Phillips was a pioneer for manufacturing the best TV at the time – starting with a monochrome model, then shifting to colour by the late ‘80s and ‘90s. Between 2000 and 2010, novel flat screens were a boon to TV lovers everywhere. Companies like Sharp and Sony took the lead here.

When they first came out, they were not affordable by many people. By 2010, flat screen TVs were turning 3 – D. A couple of years later, Samsung and other leading brands started introducing 8K resolution flat screen TVs, replacing the earlier 4K models. Now the best television you can buy has the new-wave LED screen with backlighting, and won’t cost you a lot. You will most likely be able to afford a smart LED TV with live streaming functions and downloadable apps, and high-resolution LED screens.
If you want to buy a Sony Bravia 32-inch TV, or one by Samsung or LG, you will be able to do so without hurting your pockets. You can use the EMI Network Card of Bajaj Finserv to buy your favourite TV without paying any cash upfront. Instead, you can pay in no-cost EMIs, with a tenor that is convenient for you.
